Start by unlocking access to Violin Jumpstart. No violin yet? No problem. One of the first lessons in Violin Jumpstart is about whether to rent or buy a violin, where to get one, and how much you can expect to pay.
Already have a violin? Great! You may need to get new strings or have your local shop make sure it's in good working condition, but Violin Jumpstart also covers how to change your own strings!
With more than 12 instructional videos, you'll learn how to hold the violin properly, tune it without breaking a string, hold the violin and bow, develop finger dexterity, receive tool and app recommendations for great intonation, learn the basics of proper tone production, and finally, learn your first song!
Your job is to show up consistently, willing to make mistakes and put in the work necessary each day to allow your muscles to remember how to play the violin without thinking.
Your first song will be from the old video game, Sonic the Hedgehog, which is very short and only requires you to use two fingers in your left hand. With the expansion pack, you'll receive instruction on how to play five more songs, including music from Star Wars, Harry Potter, and the Halo video game.
Play something for your family and friends and show off what your hard work has accomplished!
“Learning the violin with music that is fun makes learning more fun. I’m definitely falling in love with my instrument again.”

I’ve played violin off and on for a few years trying to trudge through the unlimited amount of videos on YouTube to only end up more confused than when I started.
When I found Rob’s course I was skeptical at first but I gave it a run. I loved the structure of the course! The goals are attainable and practice didn’t feel like practice at all! I’ve learned the correct technique that was holding me back.
If you’re a beginner I highly recommend learning from Rob! Great teacher and an even better guy! Thank you for getting me to the point I’m at now!Zach
I first touched a violin four months ago, and now I am able to play simple songs from of sheet music.
Still pretty noob, but as playing violin is complex thing, Rob was able to break it into understandable and small steps. I now understand all key aspects and could easily train them by playing great songs, like Sonic or Minecraft themes.

Absolutely! I am a firm believer that ANYONE can learn to play the violin, play it well, and have fun doing it. The only difference between you and me is the opportunity I’ve had to learn effective principles from experienced teachers, and the time and effort I’ve made to apply them. Now you have the same opportunity!
If you’re still worried you might be the exception, just read the testimonial from my student Tomáš who learned his first song in only 30 days.
This is a self-paced course that starts with 4 short intro videos covering the basics of your violin, followed by 9 lessons teaching the fundamentals of violin playing. These 9 lessons are critical for any beginning violinist to see any real progress, including
The 4 concepts of Left Hand Technique
Right Hand Technique
Tone Production
Playing In Tune
You will watch a video and use the corresponding PDF and exercise to practice along. When you have completed all of the items in one section and reached the goal, you then level up to the next section. This way, you don’t have to worry about what to practice next.
Yes! I have several resources I can direct you to in the course to help you begin to read music. But if you want to get started quickly, you can learn by ear through the video and audio tracks I provide in the course. There are many applications that can teach you how to read notes, so I have included links to my favorite where you can learn how to do so alongside taking lessons in Violin Jumpstart.
The difference between private lessons and an online course is that a course provides a general framework that works for most people, but may not work for everybody. That’s where I will help.
For example, I may suggest a different goal or practice plan for you based on what you’re struggling with. For some students, hitting a goal of 100 beats per minute on an exercise is no problem, but for others, it can be rather difficult. We can make adjustments as needed to ensure you’re working through the course at a good pace while continuing to progress.
Yes! Because this course is focused on the essentials, Sonic the Hedgehog is the only song you will learn.
However, additional songs are available to learn in the Jumpstart Expansion Pack, such as:
Star Wars
Harry Potter.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Halo
Minecraft
Assassin’s Creed 2
Each of these songs has sheet music available for a discount (I can’t offer it for free due to copyright law), and a demonstration on how to play the song, with separate camera angles for the left hand to see where the fingers should go.
Does lifetime access sound good to you?
Yes? Then you got it!
Yes! This question is asked a lot about the violin. Unlike guitar, everybody who plays the violin will hold the violin in their left hand while holding the bow in their right hand. This makes it much easier to play in ensembles and orchestras so that everybody is facing the right way!
Plan on spending around $300 for your first violin. Where an inferior instrument will hold you back, a quality instrument that is in good order will make progress easier. I will provide referrals for trusted, affordable instrument retailers, so that you can feel confident you’re not wasting money on something that only looks like a violin but will turn out to be an obstacle when it’s played.
If you already own a violin, you will want to make sure it’s in optimum condition. A trusted instrument shop can put a new bridge and strings on it and will repair the bow. Plan on spending around $150 for this service.
